Citing "personal and family issues," the two brothers of Abu Sayeed, a Begum Rokeya University student killed in a police shooting during an anti-discrimination student protest, have resigned from their positions at Bashundhara Group. Ramzan Ali and Abu Hossain notified their resignations on Tuesday through email and postal mail, a matter they disclosed on Wednesday night.

Abu Hossain stated that both brothers decided to step down for personal reasons. "We couldn’t dedicate time to our jobs due to family commitments. It wouldn’t be right to accept salaries without fulfilling our responsibilities. Hence, we opted to resign," he explained.

Ramzan Ali had recently been appointed Senior Executive at Bangladesh Pratidin's Rangpur Bureau, while Abu Hossain was assigned the same role at News-24’s Rangpur Bureau, both subsidiaries of Bashundhara Group. The appointments were announced last month on October 9, when Bashundhara Group's representatives visited their family home in Babunpur, Pirganj, to deliver the offer letters on behalf of the company chairman, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

The resignation news spread on social media on Thursday, though some sources from News-24’s Rangpur office mentioned that Abu Hossain had attended work for only two days, and the resignation remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, their sister, Sumi Khatun, was also employed by Begum Rokeya University following Abu Sayeed’s tragic death.
